At Bellevue Dental Arts (BDA), root canals are performed by both doctors in office. There are many reasons for a patient to need a root canal. Some of these include:
These procedures, in the public eye, are always associated with pain; but at BDA, both Doctors have also continued increasing their knowledge and technique to eliminate most of the bad stigma associated with the root canal. Most of the time, if caught early enough, the procedure is straightforward and painless. Dr. Ryan Chiang and Dr. Norman Chiang use a combination of new and old technologies to provide every patient with the best quality treatment. A root canal is a procedure that extracts decayed or infected pulp from the central part of the tooth, reshapes each canal and replaces it with strengthening filler. Simply, a root canal fills the middle of the tooth after removing the bacteria.
The deep cavity, one circumstance that was listed above, is the result of decay that if left long enough, can burrow into the deeper reaches of the tooth, causing extensive damage to tooth structure. When the damage goes beyond what can be treated with a filling, dentists can perform a root canal (or endodontics). This procedure preserves the tooth and retains its original structure; thereby, saving a tooth that in the past would have to have been pulled. To retain not only structure but also integrity of the tooth, a crown (explained in the sections below) is always needed after a root canal.
Please contact our office for an evaluation if you experience any of the symptoms associated with needing a root canal.
