Periodontics
Periodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the gums and supporting structures of the teeth. The word "periodontal" literally means "around the tooth." Periodontal diseases are bacterial infections that destroy the attachment fibers (gums) and supporting bone that hold the teeth in the mouth. Left untreated, these diseases can lead to tooth loss. The main cause of periodontal disease is a bacterial plaque.
Periodontists specialize in the treatment and surgery of the long-term infections of the soft (gums) and (hard) tissues. Dr. Norman Chiang has studied and provides simple periodontal surgeries to patients of Bellevue Dental Arts.
Unfortunately, periodontal-related problems are often discovered after they have persisted for an extended period of time. Our team of Doctors and Hygienists focus to minimize the risk of gum disease with proper oral hygiene, daily dental care and regular dental checkups will. Gum disease ranges from mild gingivitis (gum infection) to moderate periodontitis (gum and bone infection) to the severe periodontitis. Treatments at Bellevue Dental Arts are available for every case of gum disease.
